Journey number four into Zappa's universe will be broadcast Monday, July 23rd at 7PM. The content will feature the discography of the third incarnation of the Mothers of Invention (the Brock/Duke/Fowler band if you will) that began with Over-Nite Sensation and ended with Bongo Fury. I think Dweezil said that these albums were very much among his favorites.
This program will conclude the original plan that Tony and I made to provide an overview of the Mothers-era of Frank's music (1966-1975) that really was foundational and established the basic musical vocabulary that Frank continued to develop in the years that followed. It was also an era that Zappa paid something of a tribute to with the three boxed vinyl sets collectively called "The Old Masters," after which he apparently decided "you can't do that on stage anymore."
